Journey With Us to Austria

Tempt your customers with our collection of food-friendly, intensely pure wines from Austria!

Although Austria shares the same latitude as the Burgundy wine-growing region, it enjoys a much more central location within Europe. Austria sits in the sweet spot between the mild, damp Atlantic climate and the continental Pannonian climate (with greater variations in temperature). Austria’s warm, sunny days and cool nights with northerly winds are key to their production of aromatic wines that combine freshness, a good body and a fine character.

Perfect for customers looking for refreshing wines with concentrated flavor.

We’ve partnered with The Sorting Table Imports to bring you and your customers the best growers representative of the following regions:

  • Lower Austria
  • Südsteiermark
  • Wagram
  • Weinvertel

Lower Austria:

June Rodil and Cat Miles founded June’s Rosé in 2017. June, the beverage director for multi-outlet hospitality groups and one of 29 female Master Sommeliers in the Americas, was in search of a memorable but affordable sparkling rosé to offer by the glass at her various restaurants. Her longtime friend Cat, an importer specializing in family-owned, farmer-first wineries from around the globe, suggested they pair up to make their own.

Partnering with friend and renowned winemaker Markus Huber, in Traisental, Austria, the duo created a bespoke blend of 50% pinot noir and 50% zweigelt, bottling each vintage with Markus’s estate-grown and certified organic fruit. The final product is a spirited and happily bubbly wine with notes of ripe strawberries, red cherry, and hibiscus tea with a mineral-dry finish.

Südsteiermark:

On some of the highest and steepest winegrowing slopes in all of Central Europe, where winegrowing was documented as early as 1757, a pair of brothers continue their family tradition. Bernhard and Stefan Schauer have taken over the reins of their family’s winery and brought their own passion to this corner of Südsteiermark in southern Austria.

Since the beginning, there has always been a Schauer family winemaker overseeing viticulture and winemaking in Kitzeck-Sausal. The brothers are passionate winegrowers who always work together, in the vineyards, in the cellar, or in their parents’ Buschenschank (traditional Austrian wine tavern) and guesthouse. Stefan is the winemaker and runs the winery with Bernhard, who handles marketing and all administration. They have grown the winery quickly in the past 10 years: from 10 hectares in 2010 to 28 hectares in 2019.

Weinvertel:

Marion Ebner left home at the tender age of 16 to begin her winemaking career with
the highly respected Fritz Wieninger, but her big break came when she created a wine called Melusine, which established her as one of the most exciting young winemakers in Austria.

The history of winemaking in Manfred Ebenauer’s family stretches back fourteen generations. Today, Marion and her husband Manfred run the 20 hectares biodynamic estate in Weinviertal on the land that Manfred’s family have farmed for generations— the couple took the reins in 2007.

Marion’s and Manfred’s reverential respect for soils and plants, nature and old winemaking traditions forbids any techniques that would pose an abrupt intervention. Biologic/organic viticulture has thus become an obligation – not in the sense of following fashion or marketing trends, but rather as a natural consequence of their observant interaction with nature and with life.
